Reflecting on a Remarkable 2024 at Carma UK Construction

2024 has been a landmark year for Carma UK Construction. We’ve experienced tremendous growth, with our team now exceeding 30 talented members. This year also marked a significant milestone as our leadership team took shape with Paul Sellers has been rightfully appointed as CEO, and George Edward has seamlessly stepped into the role of COO.

As we continue to grow steadily, we’re grateful for the meaningful relationships we’ve built along the way. A special mention goes to Helen Reid from ABHRA Architects, who has made a significant impact as a Project Manager at Carma. Helen is driven, her dedication and insightful contributions have established her as a highly valued and integral member of our team.

We’ve also had the pleasure of collaborating with Tom at Gresford Architects on several major projects. His expertise and innovative designs have been truly inspiring, and it’s been a privilege to bring his thoughtful visions to life. We’re excited to continue our professional partnership in 2025 and beyond.

This year, we were also proud to deliver our maiden project with Adrian James Architects—a beautiful timber-frame build designed with sustainability at it’s core. The project features large, open apertures that perfectly frame the stunning views of Port Meadow and the spires of Oxford. It was a joy to collaborate with such a forward-thinking team, and we look forward to tendering for more exciting projects together in 2025.

Carma worked with Transition by Design in conjunction with Makespace on the innovative programme of regeneration under the Government grant project called Meanwhile in Oxfordshire. This was a series of projects which renovated unused properties to a useable standard to allow them to function over short term leases bringing them back into use. The programme was developed in partnership with Oxford City Council, with funding secured by OxLEP from the central government’s Getting Building Fund. It was launched in 2021. The main properties Carma has worked on are,

  1. 19b Market Place, Farringdon - refurbishment of a former office/retail unit into a shop 21B Park End st. Refurbishment of upper floors of late Victorian property into a number of offices.

  2. A further project on the ground floor was the creation of a community hall space and cafe. This property is opposite the Said Business School near Oxford and has been hugely successful.

  3. Stirling Close. Refurbishment of a former NHS medical and day centre which had lain derelict for some time. Repurposed into small units and community spaces.

These were fulfilling meaningful projects and we are so glad we have had the opportunity to work on them.

Such an amazing year, to grow and learn, develop our team and to strengthen relationships with the Architects we know well and to build new ones.

Here’s to another year of growth, collaboration, and success!
